Ghana Chapter President

A Message From The Chapter President - Society Year 2026-2027

Ing. Richard Baah Asare

The continued growth of the ASHRAE Ghana Chapter is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and volunteer spirit of its members. It is therefore a privilege to serve as President for Society Year 2026–2027, and I look forward to working with the entire Chapter as we pursue our shared vision and objectives.

On behalf of the elected and inducted officers, I thank you for the trust placed in us to lead the ASHRAE Ghana Chapter during Society Year 2026–2027. I humbly accept the responsibility to serve as your President and look forward to working with all stakeholders to achieve the collective goals of our Chapter.

We will prepare our Management by Objectives (MBOs), guided by the theme set by the Society President, Sarah Maston. – Changing the Game: Retrofitting for Resilience.”

Our operations will also be aligned with the ASHRAE Strategic Plan 2025–2030, currently released in March 2026 (originally started in 2025). The three main goals include:

1. Positioning ASHRAE as a global leader in advancing solutions to improve indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and address climate change. As AGC, we aim to lead the adoption and adaptation of ASHRAE standards to support indoor environmental quality, decarbonisation, sustainability, and resilience within our local context.

2. Pursuing impact-focused engagement by targeting stakeholders to build a strong workforce and maximize the utilization, adherence, and trust in ASHRAE’s global expert resources. For AGC, this means strengthening partnerships to amplify ASHRAE’s mission and support the HVAC&R and built environment workforce.

3. Increasing accessibility to ASHRAE content, resources, and member opportunities. We will leverage communication channels available through Chapters and the Region to empower members to contribute as thought partners in adapting global resources to local needs. This may also require further research into the properties of our local materials.

These are long-term goals that require careful planning and sustained effort, but they will make our Chapter more relevant and resilient.

For this Society Year 2026–2027, some key focus areas for the Chapter will include, but not be limited to:

1. Enhancing member engagement by sharing more information, updates, and announcements on ASHRAE activities through our various platforms.

2. Encouraging committees to actively reach out to members through both in-person andvirtual platforms to educate them on their mandates and encourage participation.

3. Expanding financial support by reaching out to the broader membership base rather than relying on a limited few.

4. Sustaining and improving the frequency and quality of in-person meetings to strengthen professional relationships and human connection.

5. Advancing partnerships by concluding ongoing MoUs with key stakeholders in the built environment such as GhIE, GIA, among others, and strengthening emerging
relationships with bodies like GCEA towards formal collaboration. Beyond MoUs, we will deepen these relationships through impactful joint programs that influence policy and practice.

6. Supporting the development of the younger generation (YEA and students) by guiding them in career growth and offering leadership opportunities where appropriate. At the same time, young members are encouraged to embrace mentorship.

From today—starting now—our service begins. Though voluntary, it demands commitment and responsibility. Our acceptance signifies that we will dedicate time and effort to fulfill our duties with pride and diligence.

In ASHRAE, there is no “ordinary” member—everyone has a unique role to play in the success of Society Year 2026–2027.

Our ultimate goal is to make humanity comfortable while ensuring a safe and sustainable environment for present and future generations. Let our actions—and even our inactions—contribute positively to our communities and the world at large.

May the ASHRAE Ghana Chapter rise to the charge. Together, we will succeed and be fulfilled.
Thank you.
